About Sweet Potato Village

My husband, son, and I at our home on the Oregon Coast, USA.

We’re so happy that you’ve shown interest in our brand. What is Sweet Potato Village all about? We’ll start from the beginning!

S.P.V. is a family-owned business, we began making toys in 2020. Like many others all around the world, our circumstances changed after Covid-19, and we were spending much more time at home. Pair that with a lifelong love of crafting, and a little one at home who was showing interest in wooden toys and you can see the picture.

All of our toys are produced in our small, 100-square-foot shop located at our home on the beautiful Oregon Coast, USA. The first toys we began working on were made from more common woods such as poplar and pine. We painted them brightly with acrylic paints. But quickly we realized we were enjoying this work and we wanted to improve our quality and produce products that our customers and friends would cherish forever. We quickly saw the benefit of creating toys that would grow with our little one, and toys that are open-ended by nature, allowing them to be used by children of all ages. We made it our goal to create toys that would sustainably be able to stand the test of time and be passed down through generations.

Now we make all of our toys from hardwood. Primarily we use Hickory, one of the finest quality hardwoods and the hardest wood found naturally in North America. Using pyrography we burn our designs into the toys, then we add color by applying custom water-based colors made from food-safe dyes. After drying, we seal our toys with nontoxic Shellac and finally we use natural beeswax to add a protective coating.

We love basing our toys on the designs found in all creation and the natural world around us, especially lovable animals. But we like to have fun with our toys! Who knows what we’ll come out with next!

With the incredible support of all of our wonderful customers, this business has allowed us to spend more time together as a family and for both of us to be with our little one during these tender years. We cherish these memories we’re making as a family and we can’t wait to see where this business takes us in the future!

Thank you for supporting our small family business!
