Care And Cleaning

One of the best things about wooden toys is that they are naturally antimicrobial. While plastic toys may be easier to wipe down, germs and bacteria thrive in all the nooks and crannies and hard to reach spots. Wood, on the other hand, naturally works to kill those germs and bacteria without the aid of any disinfectants. For this reason, wooden toys will likely need to be cleaned less frequently than plastic toys.

Please note that water and wood do not mix well, so with any cleaning method that involves natural wood, the less water the better!

For routine cleaning- Use a very lightly damp cloth (microfiber works great) with just enough moisture to remove surface messes and wipe down toys. Let them air dry completely before storing. Apply a fresh coat of mineral oil to recondition and repel moisture.

To disinfect- Spray toys with a light mist of a diluted vinegar and water solution of a 10:1 ratio. Wipe down with a microfiber cloth and let them air dry completely. Apply a fresh coat of mineral oil to recondition the wood and help repel moisture.

We recommend applying a fresh coat of mineral oil or a mineral/beeswax paste every few months to keep your toys in pristine condition. The easiest way to do this is to keep an oil rag and simply wipe toys down as you clean up with your children, or have them help you with this process. Apply a small amount of mineral oil to a microfiber rag and simply wipe down toys with your oil rag whenever your toys look a little lackluster.
